LEAD: The explosion Sunday at the Exxon Corporation's refinery in Baton Rouge, La., has forced an adjacent Exxon chemical unit to suspend production, company officials said. The chemical plant, though undamaged by the explosion and subsequent fire, uses naphtha from the refinery to produce compounds like propylene and benzene.
