article on conflict of interest inherent in San Francisco Examiner's coverage of SLA kidnapping of Patricia Hearst, granddaughter of paper's founder William Randolph Hearst and daughter of pres Randolph A Hearst; Examiner newsroom agrees that paper's coverage of event started to improve shortly after Sept 1, when Randolph A Hearst stepped aside as editor and publisher in favor of J Reginald Murphy; Murphy reptdly told paper's reporters to treat story as if they were reptg for another newspaper; this they have mostly done to point that they are now being accused of oversensationalizing event they were formerly accused of not covering deeply enough; San Francisco Chronicle, also owned by Hearst Newspapers, was in similar situation; controversy over coverage raises questions; does newspaper have overwhelming responsibility to its readers to provide all facts surrounding event, even when event involves owner's family; do Amer newspapers practice double standard, hard-hitting reptg at times and running at least 1/2 step behind events when news involves great corp; how far should newspaper go in reptg news that might determine whether person lives or dies; many journalists believe that press has responsibility to rept all news it can gather, with only exception being when editors and reporters believe that article can endanger a life; William Randolph Hearst por (L)
