John William Coltrane, (n. 23 septembrie 1926, Hamlet, Carolina de Nord – d. 17 iulie 1967, Huntington, New York), cunoscut și sub pseudonimul "Trane", a fost un saxofonist, șef de formație și compozitor de jazz american.
Figură emblematică a jazzului secolului 20, John Coltrane este considerat unul din cei mai importanți inovatori în muzica de jazz modernă. Dacă la începutul carierei sale a cântat mai mult be-bop și hard-bop, ulterior s-a situat în avangarda stilului free. De-a lungul carierei, a organizat cel puțin 50 de ședințe de înregistrare în calitate de lider, apărând alături de multe nume celebre în epocă, precum trompetistul Miles Davis și pianistul Thelonious Monk. Muzica sa a influențat generații după generații de saxofoniști. Spre sfârșitul carierei, muzica sa a căpătat tot mai mult accente spirituale, acesta fiind unul din motivele pentru care a fost canonizat sub numele de Sfântul John William Coltrane de către Biserica Africană Ortodoxă.
