Cette même année, il s'impose consécutivement au Masters 1000 du Canada, de Cincinnati et à l'US Open, devenant l'un des rares athlètes à réaliser le triplé américain, et achève la saison au sommet du classement avant d'être sacré champion du monde par l'ITF et joueur de l'année ATP.
Triple finaliste du tournoi de Wimbledon en 2004, 2005 et 2009, aux débuts de l'ère Federer, Roddick s'est également illustré à l'Open d'Australie, où il a atteint les demi-finales à quatre reprises, ainsi qu'au Masters de fin d'année, avec trois demi-finales pour six participations. Il a été membre du top dix mondial neuf saisons consécutives, de 2002 à 2010.
Réputé pour son jeu complet et son service surpuissant, l'Américain a détenu de 2004 à 2011 le service le plus rapide du tennis professionnel, avec une mise en jeu chronométrée à 249 km/h. Il a battu son propre record à trois reprises et détient de nombreuses autres performances dans cet exercice. Il est aussi l'un des rares joueurs à détenir un bilan positif face à Pete Sampras (2-1), et demeure le dernier joueur américain en date à avoir remporté un tournoi du Grand Chelem en simple messieurs.
Avec l'équipe des États-Unis, il remporte la Coupe Davis en 2007.
Andy Roddick annonce officiellement sa retraite sportive en 2012. Il est membre du International Tennis Hall of Fame depuis 2017.
