Playboy Enterprises has agreed to buy three sex television channels -- Hot Network, Hot Zone and the Califa Entertainment Group -- for $28.3 million, exercising an option obtained when it purchased Spice Entertainment two years ago. Also, Playboy said it would buy Vivid TV networks for $41.7 million from V.O.D. The prices may rise by $12 million if the companies meet performance goals. Playboy, based in Chicago, also extended by 10 years a contract with Vivid Video, which gives Playboy television rights, video-on-demand and video-streaming rights.

BP'S OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION FALLS 4% IN LAST QUARTER

The oil company, BP P.L.C. said yesterday that oil and gas production in the second quarter fell some 4 percent from a quarter earlier because of maintenance work at certain fields. Natural gas production from April to June declined to 8.57 billion cubic feet a day from 8.9 billion in the previous quarter, while oil supplies fell to 1.87 million barrels a day in the similar period from 1.94 million barrels, the company said. BP, based in London, has pledged to raise petroleum production by at least 5.5 percent this year.

AT&T UNIT SELLS $2.6 BILLION OF ASSETS TO PAY DOWN DEBT

AT&T Broadband has completed the sale of $2.6 billion of cable systems to three companies to pay off debt, which the company said was $47.5 billion on March 31. AT&T said it sold systems in St. Louis, Reno, Nev., and parts of Alabama to Charter Communications for $1.75 billion and a cable system in Sebastian, Fla., valued at $24 million. It also sold a system in Baltimore to Comcast for $518 million and one serving parts of Missouri to Mediacom Communications for $309 million. Charter is based in St. Louis, Mediacom in Middletown, N.Y., and Comcast in Philadelphia.

Wal-Mart Stores has begun selling a disposable camera whose $6.84 price includes loading the developed photographs onto the Internet. The European chip maker Infineon Technologies said yesterday that it would sell new shares worth about 1.7 billion euros ($1.4 billion) to finance investments, acquisitions and refinance debt. The company will sell as many as 60 million shares in Germany and the United States and in private placements. Siemens, which owns 56 percent of Infineon, will not buy shares, Infineon said. Shares have fallen as much as 24 percent since June 20 when Infineon forecast a loss in the latest quarter because of slack demand and falling prices. The shares will be priced on July 12 and start trading July 13.

L'Oréal Buying Colorama

The cosmetics maker L'Oréal has agreed to buy Revlon Inc.'s Colorama line of make-up and shampoo in Brazil for $55 million as L'Oréal expands in emerging markets. The Colorama line, introduced in 1976, includes Brazil's most popular nail polish. The cash purchase from Revlon, based in New York, includes a factory in São Paulo, the companies said.

Indonesia will offer 10 percent of PT Bank Central Asia to the public, raising as much as $47 million, as the government reduces its stake in a lender that was nationalized during the Asian financial crisis. The lender will sell 589 million shares in a move that is expected to raise about $47 million. The sale is part of a plan to sell as much as a 40 percent stake in the lender, a quarter of which is earmarked for the public with the rest being sold to a strategic investor. On Friday, the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency delayed announcing the winning bid for the strategic stake ''to ensure an optimal outcome.''

Roche Buys Drug Rights

Roche Holding, Europe's fifth-largest drug maker, said today that it had bought the rights to use an ICN Pharmaceuticals compound, levovirin, to help treat hepatitis C, which infects 170 million people worldwide. Roche, a Swiss company, did not say what it paid for the rights to levovirin. Roche will combine the therapy with its Pegasys drug. Roche said preclinical studies show that the combination may be better than Pegasys and ribavirin, the most successful treatment for hepatitis C. Roche has had a series of research setbacks and faces a delay for Pegasys, the only potentially top-selling medication it planned to introduce in 2001, analysts said. Roche will pay a one-time licensing fee, milestone payments and, if the drug gets regulatory approval, royalties to ICN, based in Costa Mesa, Calif.
